College English Center (III)

 

College English Center (III), founded in 1978 as an English teaching and research group for Fudan non-English major graduate students and developed into an English teaching and research section in 1985, is a division of College English Center, School of Foreign Languages & Literature, Fudan University,. Its faculty consists of 20 teachers, including 2 professors (one doctoral supervisor), 4 associate professors and 14 lecturers, 8 of whom have obtained or are working for their Ph.D degrees. And two foreign teachers are regularly employed. With nearly 3000 non-English major students (both M.A. and Ph.D candidates) under their supervision, the faculty, adopting the advanced principles of English language teaching, have endeavored to enhance the students’ communicative competence, constantly developed and perfected teaching methods and achieved a desirable effect. For instance, Fu Xiyong was awarded the first prize in the National English Speech Contest for College Students in commemoration of the return of Hong Kong to China in 1997. College English Center III was honored the Third Distinguished Teaching Award of Shanghai in 2001 and serves currently as a standing member of the National Association of Graduate English Teaching and Research.

Academic Achievements

In recent years, the faculty have compiled and written dozens of English textbooks and academic papers, including English for Graduate Students (Book 1-4), English Listening for Graduate Students (Book 1-2), English Writing for Graduate Students, English Translation for Graduate Students.
