ABOUT THE FACULTY
The Division is staffed with one full professor,
twelve associate professors, sixteen lecturers and two teaching assistants.
ABOUT THE TEACHING ACTIVITIES
The Division offers required English courses to the undergraduates,
graduates, and PhD & MD students from Shanghai Medical School, the College
of Health and College of Pharmacology respectively. In the meanwhile, the
Division presents selective French and Japanese courses to PhD & MD
students who are interested in learning second foreign languages on campus.
ABOUT THE RESEARCH ACTIVITIES
As always, the Division takes its research and quest
as driving force behind its teaching activities with a view to pushing the discipline
of medical English forward. From 2001 to 2002, the Division conducted the
project of Exploration into an Up-to-date
Model of Teaching and Learning English as a Foreign Language at College in
China, which was approved by the Ministry of Education under the heading of
Educational Reforms of Higher Learning in
the New Century. From 2003 to
2005, moreover, the Division was engaged in the project of Medical Lexicology in English, which was sponsored by the funds of Golden Ears of Liberal Arts, Fudan University.
As the result of its arduous
efforts in research and development, the Division has so far established and
offered nine well-designed courses to medical undergraduates and graduates: Advanced Audio-Visual-Oral Course in Medial
English; Intermediate
Audio-Visual-Oral Course in Medial English; Theme English Course on Social Medicine; Intensive English Course for Graduates; Medical Horizons—Extensive Reading; Applied Medical Terminology; Medial
English Translations & Practice; A
Practical Approach to Guided Writing;
Selective English Newspaper Readings.
In adaptation to the changing
times, the Division is committed to the compiling of textbooks of distinction.
In the past few years, the Division has accomplished compiling New Century Medical English Course—Social Medicine, Productive Reading—A Theme English Course, Medical Horizons—Extensive
Readings for medical graduates and PhD & MD students. At present, the
Division is still working on novel textbooks and will continue the endeavor
persistently.
In addition, the Division maintains
the heritage of thirty-year compilation of English-Chinese medical dictionaries
with the publications of An English-Chinese Medical Dictionary (Second Edition,
1997), A Pocket English-Chinese
Medical Dictionary (2001) and A Pocket Chinese-English Medical
Dictionary (2002). Currently, a series of medical dictionaries—Bilingual
English-Chinese Medical Dictionary,
An English-Chinese Medical Dictionary (Third Edition), New English-Chinese
Medical Dictionary and New English-Chinese Medical Abbreviation
Dictionary—have come into the final revision and addendum before in print,
which has advanced its theoretical studies on medical linguistics and semiotics
as well.
大学英语教学部第四分部（枫林校区）
概况
师资状况
目前(2005.5)拥有教师29名，其中包括教授1名、副教授12名、讲师16名, 教辅2名。
教学任务
承担枫林校区上海医学院、公共卫生学院、药学院的本科生、硕士生、博士生英语教学任务以及博士生的法语和日语二外教学任务。
科研现状
始终坚持科研带动教学并服务于医学教育，旨在开展医学英语学科建设。“英语教学新模式探索”课题获2001-02年度教育部“新世纪高等教育教学改革工程”立项。“医学英语词汇学研究”课题获2003-05年度校文科“金穗”科研项目资助。
为了学科发展，经专心研究现已开设9门成熟的硕士生、博士生课程：《医学英语视听说教程(高级)》、《医学英语视听说教程(中级)》、《社会医学英语教程》、《研究生英语精读》、《医学英语泛读教程》、《英语医学词汇及应用》、《英汉医学翻译概论与实践》、《指导性英语写作实践》、《英语报刊时文选读》。
教材建设与时俱进，不断创新。编成具有特色的教材有：全国医学院校统编教材《新世纪医学英语教程─社会医学篇》、博士生主题英语教材《阅读与应用》、《医学英语教学短文阅读-Medical
Horizons》；同时，着手编写与课程建设相适应的教材。
分部继承原外文教研室30年编撰“英汉医学词典”的传统，现已出版《英汉医学辞典》（第2版）（1997）、《袖珍英汉医学辞典》（2001）、《袖珍汉英医学辞典》（2002）。目前《英汉医学双解词典》进入初稿审定，《英汉医学辞典》第3版的修订工作、大型《新英汉医学词汇》、《新英汉医学缩略语词典》的补编工作也已进入尾声。同时，分部还开展医学语言学、医学符号学的理论研究。
